Relationship to Adolescent learning
The City Curriculum Project has a big role with the Year 9 level, this project will give them an insight to the world outside of the college and Sunbury. It will allow them to research any questions they want or need to know about the city. This project also is based on independence so students can choose which way they want to go etc.
City Curriculum's The Amazing Race
An exciting and fun activity for the students to participate in while in the city is the Amazing Race.
The Amazing race is based on famous landmarks such as :The MCG, Queen Victoria Markets, Melbourne Central, Royal Botanical Gardens.
The students will work in teams of four and must answer questions and complete activities to finish the race.
They will be required to go on foot (with time permitting) or catch the free tram service.
So far, this ACP has just been put into planning, the students do not know anything yet as we are still working on activities and assessments for them. I think they will enjoy this unit of study
Student Assessment
The 'City Curriculum Program' will focus on numerous projects and activities for the students to complete while either in the city or in class. As student teachers we will write up lesson plans based on the activities we would like the students to complete. There will be one major assessment that students must complete which will be handed in on the students last day in the city.
Students will need to to pick a location around the Melbourne CBD and research it, the students will then need to present their chosen destination using ICT of their choice.
Sarah and I came up with a fun activity for the students and I will explain it in my next blog.
City Curriculum Program
The 'City Curriculum Program' s the title of our ACP project within Sunbury Secondary College. It used to incorporated in the Integrated Studies Faculty but since no one wanted to do this the English department took it on.
This program is about students researching Melbourne, this will be done through class work as well as a practical component. The program is set out with 3 weeks the students will be at School researching and completing tasks about Melbourne. For one week the students will be in the city to explore and finish their research.
Our goal as Student Teachers while doing this ACP is to allow students to work on their life skills and independence. We will also provide assistance to the organising teachers.
The beginning of the ACP
The beginning of my ACP started at Sunbury Secondary College where I am currently doing placement. Our first ACP idea was to introduce the concept of 'Prezi'. 'Prezi' is web based application that anyone can use to present types of work on it. The teachers at Sunbury changed their mind and wanted us (Sarah Terrill and I) to work on a new curriculum the english department was working on. This was the perfect ACP for Sarah and myself as we were both Engilsh majors. It also appealed to us because it was based a lot on Authentic Learning and Life skills.
